Being at school every day counts. If your child is absent one day per week, this quickly adds up to two months of missed school in a year.
Every day counts is an initiative aiming to improve attendance at school. The initiative promotes four key messages:
- all children should be enrolled at school and attend on every school day
- schools should monitor, communicate and implement strategies to improve regular school attendance
- truanting can place a student in unsafe situations and impact on their future employability and life choices
- attendance at school is the responsibility of everyone in the community.
Infoways
Banana State School uses Infoways to effectively manage attendance. The rolls are marked each morning at 9.00am and a SMS is sent to the parent of any student who has been marked with an unexplained absence.
Parents with students who are away are asked to please notify the school via the absence line 49959 360 stating the reason for the absence. By contacting the school we are able to enter the reason and stop any messages being sent via Infoways. If you receive a message, please reply by text with the reason your child/children are absent and this can then be entered into OneSchool.
